About Shanthi's Artfulpeaces

Art has been an inseparable part of my identity since childhood. What began as simple sketches at the age of four grew into a quiet, lifelong passion. For years, I painted in the background—creating for the joy of it, gifting my work to friends and family, and letting my watercolors speak when words fell short. After nearly two decades of working in healthcare in the United States, I am now embracing my artistic calling fully, sharing the vibrant, emotive world that has always lived within me.

My medium is watercolor, and I concentrate on photo-realism, striving to create realistic depictions by meticulously exploring vibrant colors and textures. I bring a playful element to photorealism, working primarily on cold press paper. I employ glazing and wet-on-wet techniques to achieve an emotional sensibility alongside visual reality. By focusing on deep shadows, saturated color, and precise highlights, I guide the viewer's eye and aim to evoke a feeling of warmth and vitality.

My work delves into the dynamic interplay of light, form, and abstract shapes through bold contrasts and layered shadows. Much of my inspiration comes from the photographs my husband and I take during our travels, capturing the beauty of nature in various places of interest.

I have never had formal art education, nor have I participated in shows or festivals. However, I am now exploring the possibility of showcasing my work, stepping into this new chapter with the same curiosity and joy that first led me to pick up a brush.
